Funeral services were held for Douglas Eugene Bertilson, 25, from the Bohn
Funeral Home Saturday, Aug. 7th, at one p.m. with the Rev. L. G. Leonard
pastor of the St. Paul's Lutheran church, Garner, officiating.
Pastor Leonard used as his text Psalm 130; 3-4, with the meditation, "If
Thou, Lord, shouldest mark iniquities, O Lord, who shall stand? But there
is forgiveness with Thee, that Thou mayest be feared." Hymns used for the
comfort in music were: "What a Friend We Have in Jesus," "My Faith Looks
Up to Thee," and "Jesus, Saviour, Pilot Me."
The pallbearers were: Troy Nodland, Adron Bertilson, Dale Anderson, Merle
Klinge, Andrew Iverson, and Elmer Brandt. He was laid to rest in the Otis
Grove cemetery at Dows.
Douglas Eugene Bertilson was the adopted son of Mr. and Mrs. Merle
Bertilson, rural route No. 3, Garner, and he was born May 18, 1946, in Des
Moines.
He died Tuesday in a hospital in Chippewa Falls, Wisc., from stab wounds
received in a fight with other employees of a carnival where he had been
employed the last two years. He died at the attained age of 25 years, two
months, and 16 days.
Surviving are his father and his stepmother, four sisters; Mrs. Douglas
(Mary Jo) Depping of Thornton; Carol, Carolyn, and Mona, and two brothers,
Dean, is at home; and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. O. J. Iseminger, Clarion.
It is learned that first-degree murder charges were filed last Tuesday,
Aug. 3, against two young Wisconsin men in the stabing death of Douglas.
The young men are: Dennis R. Faber 21, Valders, Wisc., and Robert R.
Muench, 20, Cato, Wisc.
Police Chief James Buchanan of Chippewa Falls said that douglas had been
stabbed twice in the back during a fight involving several persons in a
parking lot about 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug 3; then later about one p.m.
Douglas died at St. Joseph's hospital in that city. (It has been learned
that all three men were employed by Century 21 Carnival in Chippewa
Falls.)

- $50,000 Bonds Set In Carnival Murder
Chippewa Falls, Wis. - Bond was set at $50,000 Wednesday for two Mantiowoc
County men charged with the first-degree murder of a carnival worker.
County Judge Marshall Morsong scheduled a preliminary hearing Friday for
Dennis Faber, 21, rural Valders, and Robert Muench, 21, Cato.
The young men have been charged with fatally stabbing Douglas Bertilson,
25, Klemme, Iowa, early Tuesday during a a fight. All three were employed
here be Century 21 Carnival.

Reduced Charge Plea Entered in Murder Case
Chippewa Falls (Special) - Dennis Faber, 21, Valders, Pleaded guilty
Monday to a reduced charge of conduct regardless of human life in Circuit
Court here.
Faber had been charged in the Aug. 3 stabbing death of Douglas Bertilson,
25, Klemme, Iowa, in a fight in a Chippewa Falls tavern parking lot. Both
had been carnival workers.
The charge of being a party to a murder was dismissed and Faber pleaded
guilty to a lesser charge, which carries a maximum penalty of five years
in prison.
A circuit court jury Dec. 3, had found Robert Muench, Rt. 1, Cato, guilty
of first degree murder in Bertilsons death. Muench was sentenced to 20
years in prison.
Judge Robert Pfiffner ordered a pre-sentence investigation before
pronouncing sentence for Faber.
