Helen Ruth Bloom
1891 - 1908
- Tragic Death
Miss Helen Bloom, the gifted daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. Bloom of Klemme,
died at the home of her aunt Mrs. W. W. Jones a few minutes before
midnight Wednesday, having passed in the space of three days from seeming
perfect health.
Miss Bloom who is a graduate of the Klemme high school, was taking a
course of advanced instruction at Eldora and came to Alden Friday evening
to spend Sunday at the home of her aunt. As she did not appear well
Sunday, Mrs. Jones prevailed on her to stay long enough Monday to consult
a physician. This was done and it was learned she was in the very last
stages of diabetes, the ravages of acute uremic poisoning being already
present. All that medical skill could do, could not prevent the collapse
of the undermining castle.
The patient passed into a state of unconsciousness Tuesday night and died
less than twenty-four hours later.
Her parents arrived at two o'clock Wednesday afternoon making the trip
from Belmond to Alden by automobile. They returned with their pitiful
burden by way of the Rock Island Thursday. The sympathy of our community
goes out to the parents and particularly to Mr. and Mrs. Jones in their
sudden bereavement.
