Iowa City after a long illness. The funeral was held Monday afternoon at 2
o'clock at the Reformed church in Klemme. Burial was at Klemme.
He first became ill in March 1941, and was taken to a Mason City hospital where
two major operations were performed. For a time he seemed to be on the way of
recovery, but in November he again had to return to the hospital for treatment.
He was taken to Hampton hospital July 16 and from there transferred to Iowa City
two days later.
Surviving him are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Martin Brinkman; four brothers,
Garland, Ronald, Merlin and Martin, Jr.
Leo Brinkman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Brinkman was born Nov. 13, 1918, at
Klemme. His parents brought him to baptism March 29, 1919. During his childhood
days he attended the public school and the church school. He was confirmed in
the Klemme Reformed church with the class of 1933. In high school he was a good
student and an outstanding athlete. He was chosen as a member of the Seven
Eagles basketball team in his senior year. He graduated with the class of 1936.
After graduating from high school he worked at various places, for a time he was
employed at a greenhouse in Sheboygan, Wis., and after returning he found
employment at the local print shop where he worked for a year and a half.
Leo was interested in the activities of his church. Until the time of his
illness he taught a Sunday school class. He was also a member of the Young
Peoples Bible class. In September, 1940, Leo and Miss Mary Nell Jones of Garner
announced their engagement. Throughout his long illness his bride-to-be was
almost constantly with him to attend, cheer and comfort him.
