Lillian was born on December 29, 1916 in rural Garner, Iowa, the daughter of
Andrew and Anna (Meinecke) Brown. She attended the Ventura Elementary School and
graduated from the Klemme High School in 1934. Lillian married Edwin Thiemann on
April 14, 1937, in her parent's home at Thompson, Iowa. They took up residence
on the Thiemann farm near Klemme, where they farmed for 40 years. The farm just
recently was designated as a Century Farm. While living there she was active at
the Immanuel Reformed United Church of Christ, where she served in the women’s
ministry and was a Sunday School Teacher. She was named a Master Farm Home Maker
in 1969 and was a member of the Hancock County Historical Society, the ODO
Homemaker's Club and a 4H Leader. She and Edwin retired to Clear Lake in 1977,
where she was an active member of the Clear Lake United Methodist Church, Garden
Club and Crescent Club.
Lillian especially enjoyed writing and was an inspiration to many as she wrote
on topics such as heritage, growing up on the farm and her faith. She enjoyed
cooking and baking and always wanted to have something on hand for the visitors
she loved to have stop by for a brief or extended visit.
Lillian is survived by her daughter, Joyce (Dale) Sorensen of Clear Lake;
daughter-in-law, Alice Thiemann of Davenport; grandchildren, Mark Thiemann of
Davenport, Sara (David Schwellenbach) Thiemann of Los Alamos, New Mexico, Nathan
