Manilla Elizabeth Carlson the daughter of Gustaf Hjalmar Karlsson and Jane
Ann Cherry was born June 12, 1898 in Seatonville, Illinois, she was the
oldest of a family of seven girls and two boys.
In 1903 Hjalmar drove a covered wagon from Seatonville, Illinois to
Klemme, Iowa to assist laying tile on the Joseph Cherry farm in section 9
of Avery Township. A year later Manilla, her mother and two sisters moved
to Klemme. The family lived on the Cherry farm for sixteen years.
Manilla attended school at Klemme and was a 10 year graduate in 1915. She
graduated from Garner High School in 1917. After graduation she taught in
the Klemme school 1918-1920.
On August 3, 1920 Manilla married Weaver Field Williams in Ingram,
Wisconsin. To this union six children were born, Owen Williams, Donald
David Williams (Doris Funk), Mary Williams, JoAnn F. Williams, Laurence H.
Williams and William M. Williams.
Manilla died January 29, 1982 at Sussex, Wisconsin and is buried in Lisbon
Central Cemetery, Sussex, Wisconsin.
