Robert E. Cavitt, age 77, died July 30, 2014 at Concord Care Center in Garner.
Services were held August 2 at Immanuel Reformed United Church of Christ in
Klemme, with burial in the Ell Township Cemetery, Klemme.
Robert Eugene was born May 6, 1937, the son of Paul and Wemkie (Trampel) Cavitt.
He grew up in and around Klemme, living with his mother in the south part of
town on Arthur’s Lane. Bob was a lifelong member of Immanuel Reformed UCC where
he was baptized and confirmed. He graduated from Klemme High School in 1954.
Bob was employed as a farm hand for numerous farmers around the area for many
years. He loved farm life and enjoyed working the land and caring for livestock.
He also traveled for a number of years as an employee with a carnival. He loved
the people. Folks knew that Bob would always give them more than their money’s
worth when he operated a ride. He relished the opportunity to bring a smile to
family, friends and acquaintances. Bob strived to make peoples’ days brighter,
be it a thrilling ride like the Tilt-A-Whirl, that special gift he would save
for someone, or the jubilant singing he would share spontaneously at almost any
family gathering. He very much enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. Bob’s
family remembers him beaming from ear to ear as he drove his stock cars at the
North Iowa Speedway, sometimes nonchalantly tooling around the track without
worrying about where he was in the competition.
Bob enjoyed collecting and wearing all kinds of hats. He loved listening to
music and was always checking up on the lives of the many people he knew. He
liked to hunt for cans. He will be remembered for being a soft-spoken man with a
great wit, warm smile, and wonderful sense of humor.
He was preceded in death by his mother. Those left to cherish his memory include
aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
