Clear Lake - Duane Luverne Davis, 71, of Clear Lake died Wednesday (Nov.
18, 2009) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.
A celebration of life for Duane will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov.
21, at the United Methodist Church, 508 Second Ave. N., Clear Lake, with
the Rev. Diane Hoover officiating. Inurnment will take place in the
Columbarium in the Memorial Park Cemetery, Highway 18 West, Mason City,
with military honors conducted by members of Veteran of Foreign Wars in
Clear Lake.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 6:30 p.m. today at Ward-Van Slyke
Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake. Visitation will also be
held one hour prior to service time on Saturday at the church.
Duane Luverne Davis was born on Nov. 27, 1937, in Cerro Gordo County, the
son of Leonard and Alta (Shaffer) Davis. He was baptized in the
Evangelical United Brethren Church in Goodell. Duane attended Clear Lake
Schools and received his GED while in the Army. Duane was inducted into
the Army on July 22, 1955, at Fort Des Moines, and served in the 73rd
Artillery as a communication specialist in Germany until his honorable
discharge on July 9, 1958, at Fort Sheridan, Ill.
He was united in marriage to Diane Fay Avery on Aug. 30, 1959, at the
Evangelical United Brethren Church in Meservey.
Duane began operating as a butcher and meat cutter for We 3 Markets in
Belmond. In 1971, Duane owned and operated his own meat
processor in Joice before selling in 1977. Duane and his family moved to
Clear Lake, and was employed by the Iowa Department of
Transportation for 23 years until he retired on Dec. 29, 2000.
Duane enjoyed trout fishing in Decorah with his granddaughter and his
special nieces and nephews. Duane enjoyed having his granddaughter,
Ashley, spend summers in Iowa. Duane also enjoyed his walks with his wife,
gardening, bird watching and the great outdoors.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Clear Lake.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Diane Davis, of Clear Lake;
his children, Clayton Davis of Mason City and Christine (Robbie)
Marchesano of Tumwater, Wash,; his granddaughter, Ashley (Scott)
Marchesano-Ricker, of Tumwater, Wash.; great-granddaughter, Rory
Marchesano-Ricker, of Tumwater, Wash.; his brothers, Dean D. (Carlene)
Davis of Mason City and Dennis Davis of Clear Lake; his sisters, Ruth Ann
(Brian) Young of Rochester, Minn., and Joan (Ralph) Davey of Manly; many
nieces and nephews and other extended family members and friends.
Duane was preceded in death by his parents.
