Darlene Blumer
Funeral services for Darlene Janice Blumer, 51, of St. Paul, Minn., were held at
10 a.m. Wednesday, May 25, 1988 at the United Methodist Church in Klemme, Iowa.
with the Rev. Herb Shafer officiating. Music was provided by Mrs. Madelyn Priebe
on the organ and Bev Thorson and Gordon Beier singing "There Is a Wideness in
God's Mercy," and "Near to the Heart of God."
Pallbearers were William Neuberger, Jr., Dean Neuberger, Lyle Goll, Harry
Anderson, Harold Blumer and Joe Gibbs.
Darlene Janice (Eichorn) Blumer, the daughter of Wallace and Mildred Rose Ella
(Anderson) Eichorn, was born May 17, 1937, at Pasadena, Calif. She was confirmed
in January 1958 at the First English Lutheran Church in Iowa City, Iowa.
She attended Forest City, Iowa grade school, and graduated from Klemme in 1955.
She graduated from the University of Iowa and received her B.A. Degree in
Elementary Education. She also attended the University of Illinois, North
Central College in Naperville, and Roosevelt University in Chicago.
Darlene was united in marriage to Glenn Merlin Blumer on April 5, 1961, at the
First English Lutheran Church in Iowa City.
She taught fourth grade at Edmund T. Lindop School, and at North St. Paul,
Maplewood Schools. She has taught third grade at Madeline Weaver Elementary
School since it opened 18 years ago. In her teaching, she often rewarded her
prize students with elaborately decorated cakes.
Darlene and her husband died at their home in St. Paul on May 16, 1988.
She is survived by her sister, Cheryl Eichorn of Duncan; and an aunt, Clara
Stevens and uncle, Orville "Bob" Anderson both of Milford.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Interment was at 2 p.m. in the Little Sioux Lutheran Cemetery of Milford with
the Rev. Tom Groth officiating.
Arrangements were made by the Tenold Funeral Homes of Klemme-Belmond.
