Mildred Zwald

1912 - 1970

Services held for Mrs. Kenneth Zwald, age 57, on June 16

Mrs. Kenneth (Mildred) Zwald died at the Belmond Community Hospital on Saturday, June 13, following an illness of several months. She was born October 4, 1913, in Garner, the daughter of Herman and Meta (Bredlow) Gast.

Mildred Gast was married to Kenneth Zwald on May 20, 1936, and lived on a farm all her married life in the Garner vicinity. She was a life member of the United Methodist Church, a charter member of the WSCS and a member of the Naomi Circle. She was also a charter member of the South Liberty Birthday club and served as a 4-H leader.

She is survived by her husband, one daughter, Mrs. Joe (Winona) Simons, Lincoln Nebraska; one son, Capt. Eugene Zwald, in the USAF based at Lakenheath, England; two grandsons, Thomas Simons and Brian Zwald; her father, Herman Gast, Klemme; two brothers, Kenneth and Loren Gast, both of Garner, and two sisters, Mrs. James (Lola) Fredin of Swaledale and Mrs. Ronald (Lois) Gibbs, Garner.

She was preceded in death by her mother.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 16, at The United Methodist Church at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Wallace Stark officiating, using as his text Proverbs 31:28, "Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her."

Mrs. Russell Thorson and Mrs. Roger Hanson, accompanied by Mrs. G. W. Templeton, organist, as they sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and Abide With Me".

Pallbearers were Gerald Fredin, Donald Hormel, Jerry Zwald, Russell May, Allen May, Dean May.

She was laid to rest in the Concord Cemetery with the Bohn Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Greene - Mrs. Kenneth (Mildred) Zwald, 57, died Saturday at Belmond Community Hospital.

Born Oct. 4, 1912, in Garner, she was the daughter of Herman and Meta Bredlow Gast. She was married May 20, 1936 and they farmed in the Garner vicinity.

Surviving are her husband, a daughter, Mrs. Joe (Minola) Simmons, Lincoln, Neb.; a son, Capt. Eugene Zwald, Laken Heath, England; two grandsons, two brothers, Kenneth and Loren Gast, both of Garner; two sisters. Mrs. James (Lola) Fredin, Swaledale; Mrs. Ronald (Lois) Gibbs, Garner, and her father.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at United Methodist Church in Garner. The Rev. Wallace A. Stark will officiate. Burial will be in Concord Cemetery with Boughton Funeral Home in charge.
