Nel Mae "Granny" Flagler
- 2015
- Flagler, Nel Mae "Granny" 80, of Glendale, AZ
passed away peacefully on January 17, 2015 to be with her eternal father. Born
in Garner, Iowa, to Ben F. and Nettie M. Greiman, she was the youngest of eight
children, who have all preceded her in death.
In 1956 she met and married Dr. Lewis Flagler in Iowa. They moved to Oklahoma
where they resided until their separation. She moved to Arizona in 1965 to live
closer to her sister Donna where she remained and called home.
She is survived by her four daughters, Cindy (Chuck, deceased) Smith, Sandy
(Bryan) Wagner, Debbie (Brad Yancey) Flagler, and Nikki (Paul) Steward, all of
Arizona, one grandson, six granddaughters, seven great-grandchildren, many
nieces and nephews, as well as countless dear friends.
She retired from the Department of Defense after 40 years of civil service,
where she began as a clerical secretary and advanced to Chief of Records
Management. She was recognized with various awards for outstanding performance
throughout her career. Beautiful, courageous, independent, selfless and strong
were just a few of her many qualities. A master at cooking, sewing, gardening,
spoiling her grandchildren, shopping and hosting get-togethers with family and
friends, she had a true zest for life. She will be truly missed by all.
A celebration of her life will be held at Christ's Church of the Valley, 7007 W.
Happy Valley Road, Peoria, AZ, Thursday, January 22nd, at 2:00 p.m.
