August 6, 1928 - January 26, 2013
Emily Lou Johnson Swearingen, 84, of Melbourne, IA passed away Saturday, January
26, 2013, at Mercy Hospital, in Des Moines, IA surrounded by her loving family.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at the Main St.
Chapel of the Anderson Funeral Homes, in Marshalltown. Visitation will be 5:00
p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 29, 2013, at the Main St. Chapel of the
Anderson Funeral Homes. Interment will be at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens, in
Marshalltown.
Emily was born August 6, 1928 to George and Blanche (Medaus) Johnson in Klemme,
IA. She graduated from Klemme High School 1947 and Evangelical Deaconess
Hospital as a RN in 1950. Emily was united in marriage to Carl Swearingen on
March 3, 1951. Last year they celebrated 61 wonderful years of marriage!
She worked in Surgery and helped
open the first recovery room at the hospital (Evangelical Deaconess Hospital).
Emily enjoyed sewing, cross stitch, bridge, golf, camping and traveling with
friends and family. She cherished time spent with her loving family.
Emily will be missed by her husband, Carl, two children: Sue (Jeff) Dillman,
Kirk Swearingen, grandchildren; Jenny (Jason) Wilson, Jessie (Bob) Border, Josh
(Nikki) Dillman, great grandchildren; Ava, Colin, Taylor, Jadon, a brother:
Robert (Darlene) Brown, and several nieces and nephews.
- She was preceded in death by two
brothers: Dwaine (Josephine) Johnson and Eugene (Virginia) Johnson. Blessed be
the memory of Emily Lou (Johnson) Swearingen.
