Funeral Service Held For "Scoop" Larsen At Ames
Former Klemme Boy Buried At Webster City Friday
Was Accidentally Killed In Auto Accident At Des Moines
Last week the Times carried an item telling of the serious accident of "Scoop"
Larsen, at Des Moines last Tuesday night. Later the sad news reached Klemme that
Mr. Larsen had passed away at a Des Moines hospital shortly after the accident.
"Scoop", as we all knew him in Klemme, Garner and Belmond, was a proprietor of a
meat market at Ames. He began his career in Klemme where he learned the
business. Later "Scoop" had charge of the J. P. Larsen & Sons markets at Garner
and Belmond. Later he went into business for himself at Ames and was doing a
fine business. He was always popular and well liked by all who knew him. His
many friends here and at other places where he was known deeply fell his
departure.
Obituary
Oscar William Larsen, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Larsen was born
November 27, 1894 at Klemme, Iowa and was very suddenly taken from this earth
when the car in which he was riding was struck by an interurban at Des Moines
about midnight, April 26, 1932.
Oscar, generally known as "Scoop" from boyhood on, spent his childhood and most
of his young manhood in Klemme, except for a few years spent as depot agent in
South Dakota. After a time he came back to Klemme, where he, with his brother,
Clarence, operated a meat market until the time of the World War.
He enlisted in the army and on February 11th, 1918 left for Camp Dodge to serve
in the 313 Supply Train Co. D. He became a corporal in this division and in July
crossed the ocean to serve his Country "Over There". He with his company
returned to America the summer following the signing of the Armistice.
After he came home from the was he took up the management of the J. P. Larsen's
Meat Market at Garner and again the one at Belmond, Iowa.
Oscar was married to Miss Margaret Jean Cheyne at Webster City, December 25,
1924.
To this happy union two children have been born; Charles Leslie who died in
infancy and little Patricia Jean, who with her mother mourns his sad loss today.
Most of the time spent since their marriage has been spent at Ames, Iowa where
he owned and successfully operated a meat market until the time of his death.
Besides his wife and little daughter, he is survived by one brother, Clarence A.
Larsen of Klemme, Ia., many other relatives and hosts of friends in whose hearts
his memory will ever be cherished.
Funeral services were conducted at Adams Funeral Home at Ames Friday by Rev.
Davidson, pastor of the Baptist church, after which the body was taken to the
beautiful cemetery at Webster City, Iowa. The last rites were conducted by the
American Legion and the Masonic Lodge.
