Marian Lau Scott
1952 - 2013
- Marian Lau Scott passed away Thursday, April
18, 2013, at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.
She was born Jan. 5, 1952, to Paul Lau and Velma (Kaduce) Lau in Mason City. The
Lau family farmed in the Klemme area where Marian attended schools until she
graduated in 1970. She then attended North Iowa Area Community College and Iowa
State University, from where she graduated in 1974.
Marian and Dave were married Feb. 1, 1975, and honeymooned in Central and South
America. Ames became their home for many years. Marian had been a teacher for
more than 35 years, first as a preschool special needs teacher in Forest City,
and then as a preschool teacher in Madrid and Ames. After earning a master’s
degree in child development in 1980, Marian taught preschool and kindergarten in
the ISU lab schools. In 1989, she became a kindergarten teacher in the Ames
Public Schools, first at Willson-Beardshear Early Childhood Center and then
Sawyer Elementary School, where she stayed until she retired in 2009. She
touched the lives of hundreds of children and their families throughout the
years.
Marian leaves behind the love of her life, her husband, Dave. He never left her
side and they never stopped hoping for a miracle. Also surviving are two sons,
Zachary with his wife, Megan, and Brian with his wife, Erin. It was a joy to
watch the boys grow up, graduate and marry. Marian truly felt blessed, and she
trusted that God is working in and through our lives for good. Please love each
other.
Marian had lots of people with her on this journey, but leading the way was
Janelle, Marian’s sister, and her husband, Tom. Other survivors include loving
brothers, Graydon and his wife, Sally, Dennis and his wife, Michelle, and Mark
and his wife, Lori; many nephews and nieces; all of whom have appreciated
Marian’s involvement in their lives; Phyllis Lau, her stepmother; and Dave’s
parents, Bob and Esther Scott. Also surviving are Dave’s siblings, Deb and Duane
Anderson, Greg Scott, Patty Scott, and Lori and Jamie Lawrence.
Friends were plentiful and there were many happy hours spent together shopping,
eating out and talking.
Marian was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Velma Lau.
Services for Marian will be Monday, April 22, at Bethesda Lutheran Church. The
visitation will be at 9 a.m. The service will be at 10 a.m. with lunch to
follow.
Adams Funeral Home in Ames is assisting the family with arrangements.
