Services for Helen Lemke Sellner, 85, Milwaukee, WI, who died April 25, 1996,
were held Wednesday, May 1, at Zwaske Funeral Home. A memorial service was held
Tuesday, April 30, at Friendship Village where Helen had lived the past 22
years.
Burial was at Prairie Home Cemetery in Waukesha, WI.
Helen Sellner, the daughter of Wm. H. and Ethel (Whitney) Lemke, was born
September25, 1910 in Liberty Township, southwest of Garner. She attended rural
schools, graduating from Klemme High School in 1930. She spent three years in
nursing training at Methodist Hospital in Sioux City. She then worked there as a
surgical nurse for a number of years. She later attended St. Paul Bible
Institute in St. Paul, MN. After receiving a degree in Theology, she served in
Home Missionary work.
In 1948, following the death of her sister-in-law, LaVonne, she lived with her
brother Bill for three and one-half years, helping care for his sons, one month
and 2 1/2 years of age.
In 1951, while visiting her parents in Garner she was encouraged to become a
Hancock County Nurse. After a year attending the University of Minnesota, she
served as nurse in Hancock County for two years.
July 21, 1955, she married Ralph Sellner. They lived in Milwaukee throughout
their married life. She served as school nurse in Milwaukee for several years.
Helen's life-long dedication to mission work, along with her husband's, was well
known by family and friends. They gave prayer and support to many missionaries.
She is survived by sisters, Ethel Volkman and Lorraine Mitchell of Mason City;
brothers, William and Lou of Weyerhauser, WI. Byrnes and Stella of Klemme,
Laurice and Marjorie of Klemme; 10 nieces and nephews; 17 great-nieces and
nephews; one great-great niece and one great-great nephew.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph on February 1, 1988; and her
parents.
