Services for Richard A. Meints, 47, St. Charles, who died of an apparent heart attack, Saturday, March 27, 1993 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, were held Tuesday, March 30, 11 a.m., at Interstate 35 High School in Turo with the Rev. Ed Poston of St. Charles officiating.

Burial was at the St. Charles Cemetery in St. Charles with Kale Funeral Home in Turo in charge of arrangements. Memorials will be used for a scholarship fund at Interstate 35 High School.

Richard Allen Meints, the son of Herman A and Lenora Larson Meints, was born June 6, 1945 at Belmond. He attended Klemme High School, Emmetsburg Junior College and was a graduate of the University of Northern Iowa in 1967. He received his masters from Kirksville in 1973.

February 24, 1968, he married Carol Ann Fry at Emmetsburg. Richard taught school at Madrid from 1967 to 1973 and had been a math and physics teacher at Interstate 35 High School in Turo since 1974.

He was an honorary member of FFA and took an active part in St. Charles Parish Church.

He is survived by his wife, Carol of St. Charles; a son, Jamey Allen Meints of Ames; two daughters, Nicky Meints and Kristy Meints, both of St. Charles; a foreign exchange daughter, Claudia Urbano of Cali, Columbia, who is living with the Meints family in St. Charles; two bothers, Harlan Meints of Ute and Terry Meints of Klemme; his parents, Herman and Lenora Meints of Klemme; and his mother-in-law, Darlene Fry of Emmetsburg.

Richard Meints, St. Charles

Funeral services for Richard Allen Meints, 47, were held Tues., March 30 at Interstate 35 High School in Truro with the Rev. Ed Poston officiating. Mr. Meints died March 27, 1993 of a heart attack at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Burial was at St. Charles Cemetery.

Mr. Meints was born in Belmond, Ia. on June 6, 1945 to Herman and Lenora Meints. He married Carol Ann Fry in Emmetsburg on February 24, 1968. He taught mathematics and physics for nineteen years at Interstate 35 High School. He had previously taught at Madrid for six years. He was an honorary member of FFA and active in the St. Charles Parish Church. His students and friends remember him for his optimistic attitude and his humorous stories.

Surviving relatives include his parents and wife; one son, Jamey, a student at Iowa State University of Ames; two daughters, Nicky and Kristy, at home; two brothers, Harlan of Ute and Terry of Klemme; his mother-in-law, Darlene Fry of Emmetsburg; and a foreign exchange student, Claudia Urbano from Colombia, who is living with the family.

Because of his dedication to education, a scholarship fund for college-bound students is being established at Interstate 35 High School. Donations for the fund may be sent to the St. Charles branch of Farmers and Merchants Bank.
