Irene Myrtle Chelsvig
August 7, 1931 - April 25, 2019

Irene Myrtle Chelsvig, 87, of Story City died April 25, 2019 at Bethany Manor in Story City. A Celebration of Life service will be Tuesday April 30, 2019 at 10:30 am at St. Petri Lutheran Church in Story City. Burial will follow in the Story City Cemetery. Visitation will be an hour prior to the service at the church.

Irene was born on August 7, 1931 in Mason City to Theodore and Irene (Netland) Menage. She married Dale Chelsvig on November 10, 1949. He died July 3, 1978. Irene worked many years at the Story City Hospital and then at Slim’s Country Fruit Market.

Irene lived most of adult life in Story City and was a member of St. Petri Lutheran Church. She enjoyed playing bingo, watching sports, canning and freezing of fruits and vegetables, gardening and driving around Story City. Her family and especially her grandchildren gave her the greatest joy.

Irene is survived by her son, Mike (Chere) of Adel; three daguhers, Patty (Charles) VanPatter, Judy (Tim) Watson and Cindy Osmundson all of Story City; nine grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren and a sister, Iola (Arlo) Ericson of St. Joseph, MO.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dale; two sons, Ricky and Richard; a son-in-law, Larry Osmundson and a grandson, Chad Chelsvig.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Bethany Life Staff Recognition Fund.
