Mary Kathryn Netland the daughter of George Andrew and Shirley Jean
Netland, was born at her parents' home in Klemme, IA, on February 28,
1949. She grew up in Klemme where she attended Klemme Community Schools.
In the earlier years of her life, she was active in the Klemme United
Methodist Church.
Mary was united in marriage to Cecil V. Noble, on August 19, 1967, at the
United Methodist Church in Crystal Lake, IA. Following their marriage the
couple settled in Garner, IA, where they raised their three daughters:
Lisa, Shelley, and Sara.
Mary was a loving wife, nurturing mother, and doting grandmother to her
family. She relished each of these roles in their own way. In
addition to being a full-time home maker, she had been employed for many
years painting various condos in the Clear Lake area. She had also worked
for periods of time at Gilles Bar and at the Garner VFW over the years.
Her energetic and friendly personality made her a perfect fit for these
positions.
She enjoyed bowling and was very good at this hobby and had participated
in various leagues and tournaments over the years. Other favorite past
times were family camping outings when her and Cecil would take the kids
and families to a variety of different destinations. Mary looked forward
to excursions to the casino for a bit of playing the slots, playing bingo,
shopping trips to many places, a favorite of which was "After Midnight"
sprees to Walmart. Even in later years when she would no longer drive
something that she truly missed being able to do, Mary might be found
jumping on the area transit bus to make a trip for a little fresh air and
shopping.
She and Cecil enjoyed more than 50 years of marriage together and the two
looked forward to outings to listen to musical performances
including the Surf Ballroom. Mary loved music and especially loved to
Polka where her true fun loving and whirlwind enthusiasm would show though
brightly as she floated about the dance floor.
-
- "Cac" as she was often referred to for short and
Cecil would often host family gatherings such as Thanksgiving and other
holidays or occasions and would do so in their own unique way. Mary was
known to host many after closing breakfasts during her years of managing
the VFW in Garner, when she would invite patrons over for her infamous
"Mary Noble's Breakfast Casserole". Another delicious favorite creation
from her kitchen that family recalls was her meatloaf and potatoes.
Grandma Mary looked forward to feeding her grandkids and of course
spoiling them by giving them all the things they weren't necessarily
supposed to eat. She had a bit of a sweet tooth and besides always having
candy on hand for her kids and grandkids, she would figure out sneaky
story lines and methods to ensure that she would have her own stash of
treats on hand for herself regardless of if they might not be the best
medicine for her own health.
-
- She was kid at heart! Mary looked forward to
attending the many birthday parties of her grandkids that many time were
hosted at an area hotel. She had enjoyed her daily exercises and bicycling
for many years prior to heath issues that making these passions no longer
something she would be able to continue. Mary loved jewelry and getting
her nails done. If you saw her hands, they would usually be adorned with
rings on nearly every finger of both hands.
-
- She and Cecil were very particular about their
surroundings and the yards around wherever they lived from their time at
their apartment in Thornton to her last few years at the Oakwood Care
Center, if the grass wasn't cut just right, or there were weeds visible in
the grass or in the flower beds at the care center, her grandkids could
expect her to reach out to them to get those concerns taken care of right
away!!
Her family and anyone who had the opportunity to cross in the footsteps of
Mary or "Cac's" life journey will smile and reflect on her unique sense of
character, her fun-loving personality, quick wit, out of nowhere
one-liners!, and the uninhibited responses and words that might come out
of her without filter. Often times spent with Mary meant one might end up
on an adventure. She was the true definition of a Character!! During her
time at Oakwood she definitely kept the staff on their toes and the family
thanks the crew there for all their love and care. She loved her "Special
Sister" there Rose Wilson and her "New Best Friend" at the facility Joyce
Hanson. The were somewhat of the "Three Musketeers!"
Mary's spirit and memory will continue to burn brightly in the hearts and
minds of her daughter Lisa (Dennis) Heitland, Thornton, IA, and their
families including son Joshua (Kelce) Henley, Ft. Collins, CO, and their
children Jackson, and Greyson; son Steven (Ariel) Cook, Mason City, IA,
and their daughter Aurora; daughter Susie (Eric) Welsh, Rudd, IA, and
their daughter Gracie and an infant son due Oct. 23rd that Mary was
anxiously awaiting his arrival; son Jayson Cook and Collin Cook both of
Thornton, IA; Mary's daughter Shelley (Steve) Mace, Ventura, IA and their
families Jordan (Phil) Pruessner, Sheffield, IA, and their children Kale
and Sean; Taylor (Mark ) Peterson, Ventura, IA; Cody Mace and his son
Brody, Colorado; and Cassidy Mace, Gilbert, AZ; and Mary's daughter Sara (Donvin)
Lumley, Aredale, IA and their children Travis (Laura) Lumley and son Kevin
Lumley. Also surviving her sister Marilyn Jean Roberts, Garner, IA, Eileen
Netland sister-in-law, and several nieces and nephews, as well as other
extended family and her Special Sister Rose Wilson and best friend Joyce
Hanson, both of Oakwood.
She was preceded in death by her parents George and Shirley Netland,
husband Cecil on Jan, 20, 2018, siblings Karen, Benji, Wanda, Caroly,
Willard (William), Merlin "Butch", infant brother George Andrew, Jr., and
other family members and in-laws.
