Willard Duane Netland passed away peacefully on February 4th, 2017, in Mesa, AZ
after a brave battle with Lung Cancer and COPD.
He was born on February 16th, 1946, in Garner, Iowa, to George and Shirley
Netland. He grew up in Klemme, Iowa, along with his seven brothers and sisters.
He married Diane Marie Loux on July 20th, 1963. They had two daughters, Jodi and
Tammy Jo.
He was a hard worker and often had two jobs to make sure his family had
everything they wanted and needed. In the 70's he started Netland Trucking. In
1979 he moved his family to Payson, AZ where he worked for Payson Concrete and
the Town of Payson as Street Supervisor. While living in Payson, he enjoyed the
weekends at the lake camping and fishing or Sunday drives with the family.
Trucking was his passion and so in 1988 he started truck driving again. In 1990
he moved to Mesa, AZ where he enjoyed fishing on the weekends and sprint car
races with his grandsons Dustin and Tyler. After retiring in 2008, he enjoyed
spending time with his family and friends.
Missing the quiet small town life, in 2012 he and Diane started to summer in his
hometown of Klemme, Iowa. There he enjoyed sitting on the front lawn and
visiting everyone who went by, driving in the country reminiscing, going to
tractor shows, and local parades. He always looked forward to Saturday coffee
and breakfast with his friends. He and Diane spent winters in Mesa, AZ. He
looked forward to picking up his grandson Kameron from school and going to
McDonalds for fish sandwiches. He had many friends that would stop by daily and
always looked forward to their visits.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 53 years, Diane; daughters Jodi
Claydon (Ron) and Tammy Jo Burckhard (Kris); three grandsons Dustin Claydon,
Tyler Claydon, and Kameron Burckhard; his siblings Mary Noble (Cecil), Merlin
Netland, Marilyn Roberts, Carolyn Rassmuson, sister-in-law Eileen Netland; and
several nieces and nephews and close friends.
He was preceded in death by his Father George
Netland and Mother Shirley Netland, sister Wanda Netland, brother Benjamin
Netland, sister and brother-in-law Karen and Gayle Lay, and brother-in-law Duane
Roberts.
The Family will be having a memorial at a
future date this summer in Klemme to celebrate Willard's life. Condolences may
