Barbara Peterson
A. Barbara Peterson, 85, of Belmond, formerly of Goodell, died Tuesday, Feb.
1, 2000, at the Concord Care Center in Garner.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 5 at the United Methodist Church
in Goodell, with Pastor Curtis DeVance officiating. Interment was at
Amsterdam Township Cemetery in Goodell. Music was provided by Shirley
Kuhlers, organist. Casket bearers were Laurel McMahon, Betty Hadley, Lorna
Holst, Kris Juenger, Cindy Fletcher, and Annette Boelman. Ushers were Larry
Langlitz and Gerald Burk.
Agnes Barbara Peterson, the daughter of Lauretz "Peter" and Laura Christie
Peterson was born on December 18, 1914, in Twin Lake Township near Goodell.
Barbara grew up in the Goodell area where she attended country school at
Twin Lake #5. She graduated from Klemme High School in 1932. She then was
employed as a housekeeper for several Belmond doctors and other residents.
She later was employed at Concord Care Center and then Belmond Health Care
Center for ten years, retiring in 1983. Barbara lived in the Goodell area
her entire life, until moving into the Belmond Apartments in 1994.
Barbara was a member of the United Methodist Church in Goodell, where she
had been a Sunday School teacher and sang in the choir. She was a life-long
member of the Goodell American Legion Auxiliary and held many county and
district offices. Barbara was active in Goodell and Belmond Senior Citizens,
Meservey Kitchen Lassie Band, Jolly Workers and Friendly Neighbor Club. She
enjoyed quilting.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, five sisters, two brothers,
two brothers-in-law, one niece and one nephew.
She is survived by two sisters and brothers-in-law, Elaine and Ernest Woiwod
of Garner, Lula and Frederick Bell of Klemme; two brothers and
sisters-in-law, John and Mavis Peterson of Belmond, Christie and Viola
"Blondie" Peterson; two sisters-in-law, Della Peterson of Belmond, Edna
Peterson of Corwith; one brother-in-law, Leslie Meres of Arizona; numerous
nieces and nephews.
