Elda Palsdorfer Is Killed In Accident

Elda Palsdorfer, a telephone operator at Garner, was killed early Sunday on Highway 18, 2 1/2 miles east of Garner, when a car in which she was riding struck the rear of an auto wrecker that was attempting to pull a ditched car back on the road.

Authorities said that rain which produced bad driving conditions was responsible for the accident. Others in the car were Otto Schipull, 25, Gaylan Heinkel, 23, of Luverne; and Ruby Earles, 20, Britt. They were all hospitalized in Mason City with their conditions reported as fair.

The wrecker was pulling an auto belonging to Wayne Fjilstad, Lake Mills, from the ditch when the car carrying Miss Palsdorfer appeared over a small rise in the road. Fjilstad told authorities that he was directing traffic with a flashlight. He said that when he saw the car was not going to stop he leaped into the ditch as did the tow truck operator, who was setting out flares. No one was in the wrecker at the time of impact.

A complete obituary will follow in next week's issue
