Dean James Prescott

1962 - 2008

Dean J. Prescott, 45, died unexpectedly at his home in Klemme on August 18, 2008. Funeral services were held August 22 at the Klemme United Methodist Church with Pastor Eric Williams of the Garner Evangelical Free Church and Pastor Paddy Druhl officiating. Burial was in the Ell Township Cemetery, Klemme.

Dean James, the son of Clayton and Beverly (Tanner) Prescott, was born November 25, 1962 at Britt. He was baptized and confirmed at the United Methodist Church in Klemme. Growing up, Dean was very adventurous and enjoyed racing on mini bikes, motor scooters and three wheelers. At the age of 14 he suffered injuries from an accidental gun shot that impaired him physically for the remainder of his life. Dean graduated from Klemme High School in 1982. He worked for a time at Korbert in Klemme. Dean was a devoted caregiver to his widowed mother.

Following his mom's stroke and move to the Concord Care Center in Garner, Dean made many treks to visit her. Dean became a little more reserved, focusing his attention on his Dobermans, homing pigeons and cockatiels. Several years ago he met Sheila Orense, and their long distance relationship developed into marriage on February 7, 2006 in Garner. Dean's life and energy for adventures and travel was rekindled. Dean and Sheila traveled to various events and happenings around Iowa. Dean also enjoyed fishing at Ventura. Dean and Sheila had many plans and dreams for the years to come. Dean looked forward to restoring a 1948 Harley Davidson street bike that he owned. He loved classic rock music and spending time on his computer. He loved hunting and the outdoors, and last fall one might find him on a country road in his wheelchair, shotgun in hand and dog at his side, pheasant hunting. Dean was a long time member of the Klemme United Methodist Church, and recently he and Sheila belonged to the Garner Evangelical Free Church.

He was preceded in death by his father and maternal and paternal grandparents.

Dean is survived by his wife; mother; brothers Bill (Peggy) Prescott of Thompson, Jim (Rosalie) Prescott and Sid (Julie Haugen) Cuellar of Klemme; "Junior" Clayton (Roberta) Prescott of Garner, and Ron (Jolene) Prescott of Des Moines; uncles George Tanner of Garner and Walter Tanner of Mason City; and Aunt Lorraine of Minnesota.
