Helen L. Schmock passed away following a brief illness on January 18,
2013, in Simi Valley, Calif. Helen was born in Swaledale, Iowa, to Harry
and Florence Pringnitz on February 9, 1931.
She married George Schmock, Jr. on March 12, 1949, who preceded her in
death. Helen and George spent their early years in Oregon and moved to
California in 1959, eventually settling in Simi Valley, Calif., in 1970.
Having spent several years in banking, Helen began her long career in real
estate in 1971.
Helen was on the Conejo Simi Moopark Association of Realtors for over 40
years and was a very active member. She served on the Board of Directors
for several years both as Secretary/Treasurer and as chair of countless
committees. In 2002, Helen was named Realtor of The Year and in 2011,
after 40 years of service as a Realtor, Helen received recognition as a
Realtor Emeritus of the National Association of Realtors. Helen also
proved herself to be an accomplished business woman.
Along with her husband, Helen owned and operated small businesses, most
notably Colleen's Fashions; a ladies fashion shop that was well known in
Simi Valley for many years. In addition to her family and friends, Helen
enjoyed cooking, making home made preserves, sewing, knitting and
crocheting. She enjoyed many summers at the family cabin in Dinkey Creek,
Calif. Helen is survived by her two children, Clayton (Bettina) Schmock of
Oxnard, Calif., Carol Schmock of Prather, California; brother, Harry
(June) Pringnitz of Iowa; sister, Jacque (Don) Trca of Iowa; two
grandchildren and three great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation is from 2 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, January 23, 2013, at Reardon
Funeral Home in Simi Valley, Calif. Pastor Jim Dixon from the Church of
Shaver Lake officiates a funeral service at 11 a.m. on Thursday, January
24, 2013, at the Reardon Funeral Home in Simi Valley, Calif., followed by
a graveside service at the Simi Valley Cemetery.
