Services for Velda D. Blank, 76, Klemme, who died Wednesday, May 10, 1995 at
North Iowa Mercy Health Center in Mason City, were held Saturday, May 13, 10
a.m., at the United Methodist Church in Klemme with Rev. Jerry Robertson as
officiant.
Music was provided by organist, Margaret Tue, and vocalist, Gordon Beier. Ushers
were Everett Guth and Bob Scott.
Casket bearers were Tory Waddingham, Arlyn Waddingham, Tully Waddingham, Gary
Blank, Jeff Thompson and Donald Hanson.
Burial was at the Ell Township Cemetery, Klemme, with Tenold Funeral Home in
charge of arrangements.
Velda Deloris Blank, the daughter of Elmer and Gertrude (Stille) Schaefer, was
born April 5, 1919 in Liberty Township, rural Klemme. She attended country
school and graduated from Klemme High School in 1937. She earned a teaching
degree in Cedar Falls and taught school for eight years.
December 20, 1944, she married Irvin "Bodie" Blank. They began farming on a farm
west of Klemme and farmed for 25 years until her husband's health began to fail
and they moved to Klemme. Bodie died in 1971 and shortly after, Velda moved to
Belmond where she worked at the Ben Franklin Store and for many years at
Bloemke's Pahrmacy.
Velda retired and moved to Prairie View Apartments in Garner. She was a member
of the United Methodist Church in Klemme.
She is survived by daughters, Mrs. Donald (Verlene) Hanson of Fertile, and Mrs.
Arlyn (Nola) Waddingham of Meservey; a son, Gary Blank of Klemme; her mother,
Gertrude Beier of Garner; a brother, Wavel Schaefer of Kanawha; grandchildren,
Tory and Tully Waddingham, and Jeff Thompson; step-grandchildren, Sandy Jordahl
and Debbie Hanson; great-grandchildren, Mackenzie Thompson; and
step-great-grandchildren, Spencer and Austin Jordahl.
She was preceded in death by her father, Elmer; husband, "Bodie"; step father,
Elmer Beier; and a brother, Melvin "Rusty" Schaefer.
