Melvin O. Schlei

1918 - 1964

 

Rites held Wed. for Melvin Schlei

Melvin O. Schlei, 46 passed away suddenly Monday afternoon, Oct. 6, following a heart attack. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, at the First Methodist Church. The Rev. Wallace Stark officiated, using Isaiah 41:10 as his text.

Vivian Michelson, soloist, sang "Near to the Heart of God" and "God Understands," accompanied by Mrs. Chet Stille, organist.

Burial was made in Ell Township Cemetery, Klemme, with Bohn Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Military services were conducted at the graveside by the American Legion Post No. 256 assisted by the V.F.W. Post No. 5515. Pallbearers were Graydon Back, Robert Hartzell, Franklin Buseman, Lyndon Kilgore, Carold Larson and Verle Keraus.

Born Sept. 30, 1918, at Klemme, he was the son of Henry and Flora Schoenwetter Schlei. He received his education in the Klemme schools, graduating from Klemme High School. He served five years in the United States Air Force during World War II. On February 16, 1947, he was married to Veletta Jurgenson. He was employed as manager of the Seidels Company store soon to open in Garner.

Surviving are his wife, two sons, Douglas, 17, and Jeffrey, 12, and one brother, Kermit Schlei of Klemme.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
