Arlene Bertha Rasmus 1924 - 2013
June 22, 1924 - December 2, 2013 Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 P.M., Friday at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel, 160 E. 4th St., in Garner with an American Legion Auxiliary service at 5 P.M. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church. Memorials may
be made to the family and will be distributed to Zion Evangelical and Reformed
Church and Hospice of North Iowa. Arlene's family would like to thank both
Concord Care Center and Hospice of North Iowa for their devoted care. After graduating from high school, she remained on the farm. During WWII, Arlene met Irwin Dean Rasmus on a blind date. Dean was home on furlough in October 1941 prior to shipping for the European Theater. After his honorable discharge on August 2, 1945, Dean hastily returned home, quickly seeing his family and then off to see his future bride. They were married at Immanuel Reformed Church in Klemme on December 5, 1945. Dean and Arlene made their home in Garner where they raised their children, Judith, Ken and Glenn. Arlene worked at Winnebago
Industries for approximately 22 years until her retirement. During her
retirement she enjoyed spending time with Dean, crocheting and knitting items
for Christmas gifts. She was a member of Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church
and the American Legion Auxiliary. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dean; son, Ken; sister-in-law, Lois Schmidt; and brother-in-law, Mervin Barkema.
