David Allen Schoenwetter, the son of Milvern and Ethel (Hollatz)
Schoenwetter, was born September 29, 1951, at St. Joseph's Mercy Hospital,
Mason City, IA. He was baptized and confirmed at the Liberty Methodist
Church rural Hancock County. Dave attended Klemme Community Schools and
graduated from Klemme High School in the Class of 1969.
Following high school David farmed with his father Milvern and brother
Robert for a number of years in the rural Garner/Klemme areas. During the
winter months David attended North Iowa Area Community College in
agricultural studies. Following his father's passing he continued to farm
for a time with his brother, Rob. Rob passed away unexpectedly in 1994 at
the age of 39.
David was united in marriage to Diane Simonson. Together they farmed and
enjoyed camping, golfing, and traveling even taking a trip to Germany.
Dave became a stepdad to Perry, Kitrie, and Peter which he truly enjoyed.
In addition to his farming years, Dave had been employed in various roles
at the Klemme Co-op, AGP, Maxyield, and eventually New Co-op. Being very
intuitive, able to diagnose a problem, mechanically inclined and able to
fix almost anything he fulfilled many different job positions. Often
referred to by others as "The Fix All! Man". Being a "Jack of All Trades",
David operated Pay loaders loading chicken litter, drove trucks, delivered
anhydrous, and numerous other tasks of the trade. He was very much a
people person with a steady even temperament which that made him a perfect
teammate in all his various job positions. His friendly demeanor and
innate ability to converse with nearly everyone who met him he had
countless friends. Between his many years with the Co-ops, attendance at
Hog Shows, helping with 4-H events at the fairs and shows, tooling about
the countryside and randomly stopping to visit with folks along the way
these friendships were truly abundant. He served on the Hancock County
Extension Council and was a Liberty Township Trustee. Dave enjoyed fishing
trips to Canada and other places over the years and caught a few trophy
fish.
Though David never played sports in his youth due to allergies and asthma
he truly has a passion for sports, especially his Iowa State Cyclones,
Minnesota Twins and Vikings. David very much enjoyed the simple things
that life brought along his journeys. He and mom, Ethel looked forward to
their morning and evening calls to one another to chat about the
happenings of the day, the latest news and of course about their mutual
favorite Twins and Vikings. He truly loved to spend time tinkering and
fixing things and of course his love for tools often meant a trip to Mills
Fleet Farm or Boomgaars. He loved to watch and feed the birds, raising a
garden and maintaining and mowing his acreage. One of his favorite "Happy
Places" was Friday evenings spent with friends and family at the Slippery
Elm Club House.
He will be remembered by those who had the privilege of crossing in his
footsteps or journeys about the countryside as a gentleman, humble in
personality, not easy to get angered, who always looked at the bright
side. Some of his favorite words he would often use included, "It is What
it Is!", "It Will Be What it Will Be!", which describe his easy-going
character perfectly.
His memory will continue to live in his surviving family members including
his mom, Ethel Schoenwetter, Klemme, IA; his sister, Joan Bruggeman,
Klemme, IA and her children: Andy (Bobbi) and their daughters Maddie and
Charlie Bruggeman, Garner, IA; Brian (Lynn) Bruggeman, Garner, IA, and
their son Kaleb (Sydney) Bruggeman, Waterloo, IA; Brandon (Nickie)
Bruggeman and their children, Reece and Kenadie, Klemme, IA, ; and his
side kick "Budlie"; aunt Ardith (Wayne) Toppin, Clear Lake, IA, several
cousins, other extended family members and countless friends. He was
preceded in death by his father Milvern Schoenwetter in 1987, brother
Robert Schoenwetter1994, and brother-in-law Calvin Bruggeman 2022.
