Funeral services for Nellie Anna Stromer Heald, 81, of Ames, formerly of Klemme, who died Wednesday, July 30, 1997, at Northcrest Care Center in Ames, were held Monday, Aug. 4, 10 a.m. at Collegiate Presbyterian Church in Ames with Rev. Margaret Desmond of Collegiate Presbyterian Church and Rev. John S. Anderson of Northcrest officiating.

Inurnment was at Ames Municipal Cemetery, Ames, with Adams Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Nellie Anna Stromer, the daughter of Herman Richard and Mary (Katter) Stromer, was born March 1, 1916, in Klemme. She graduated from Iowa State in Home Economics. Her particular area of expertise was in Foods and Nutrition. She taught high school as a home economist for 3 years in Minnesota and Iowa and for one year at Crystal Lake.

October 11, 1941, she married George N. Heald in Klemme. The couple resided in Rolfe until 1954 when they moved to Ames.

She was a member of the Collegiate Presbyterian Church, Ames Women's Club, HEIH (Home Economics in Homemaking), a member of Friends of International Students Assn., served as a 4-H leader and as a judge at the local, county and state levels.

She enjoyed traveling, cooking and sewing.

She is survived by her husband, George N. Heald of Ames, two daughters, Joyce Ann Heald Simpson of Quincy, IL., and Betty Elaine Heald Johnson of Columbia, MD., and three grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and three brothers, Aaron, Vern and Harold Stromer.

Nellie Anna Stromer Heald, 81, of Ames died of heart ailment Wednesday at Northcrest Care Center there. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Collegiate Presbyterian Church in Ames, of which she was a member. Burial will be in Ames Municipal Cemetery.

Mrs. Heald was born in Klemme and had lived in Ames since 1954. She was a former home economist and also taught school for a short time in Crystal Lake. She was a member of Ames Women's Club, Home Economics in Homemaking and Friends of International Students Association. She had served as a 4-H leader and as a judge at the local, county and state levels.

Surviving are her husband, George; two daughters, Joyce Heald Simpson of Quincy, Ill., and Betty Heald Johnson of Columbia, Md.; and three grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Adams Funeral Home in Ames. Memorial contributions may be made to Northcrest Retirement Community.
