Janice Marlene was born August 23, 1936 in Klemme, IA the daughter of Leonard Magnus and Irene Mae (Lemke) Swanson. Living next door to the family chicken hatchery, Janice learned hard work and responsibility early on. Soon after the loss of her father, Janice graduated from Klemme High School. On April 14, 1957 she married the love of her life, Eugene Merlin “Gene” Bachman, and to this union a son was born, Marvin Gene. Janice loved working around the farm, tending to the livestock and helping with the crops. For a while she worked at the bank in Klemme and then began working at the Ventura Elevator. After Gene’s stroke they moved off of the family farm and made their home in Clear Lake. Janice continued working at the Ventura Elevator until her retirement at age 65.

Janice was the pinnacle of thriftiness, squeezing every bit of value from her hard earned dollar. Home was her haven, where she relished time with her husband Gene and the laughter of family. They found bliss in the uncomplicated treasures of life—a cozy home, long drives to inspect their beloved farmland, a good round of BINGO or an afternoon at the casino. Janice was a sweetheart with a sprinkle of sass and a dash of stubbornness. Her witty humor, complete with clever nicknames, turned everyday moments into lively tales. The sparkle in her eyes was brightest when she was with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her grandchildren, Dani (Chad) Goeman of Clear Lake, Chris Bachman of Klemme, Jameson (Lea Carlson) Bachman of Meservey, and Chandler (Brianna) Bachman of Belmond; great-grandchildren, Libby, Emma, Christian, Jaxon, Quinton, Kanon, Easton, Caden and Levi; a sister-in-law; nieces and nephews as well as Gene’s family and many extended relatives.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene; a son, Marvin Gene Bachman; parents, Leonard Swanson and Irene Yanoski; and father and mother-in-law, Martin and Tillie Bachman; as well as a sister-in-law and brothers-in-law.
