- Delores Lucille DeLawyer
Boise, Idaho — Delores Lucille DeLawyer passed away on Monday (Feb. 16,
2004) after her 5-year battle with cancer.
The family would like to thank everyone at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center,
Houston, Texas, and Mountain States Tumor Institute, for all their loving
care in assisting with extending Delores' life. She had five wonderful years
from her initial diagnosis.
Delores was born on Aug. 16, 1934, on a farm near Klemme, Iowa, to Alvin and
Jennie (Albers) Thiemann. She attended all her school years in the Klemme
School District. She was confirmed in and is a member of the Immanuel
Reformed Church of Christ.
Delores moved to Marshalltown in 1952 to work as a nurses' aid in the
Deaconess Hospital. She later moved to Des Moines and was a proofreader for
the Meredith Publishing Company.
Delores met Floyd A. DeLawyer in 1952 while working in Marshalltown. They
were married April 27, 1955, in Las Cruces, N.M., close to where he was
stationed in the Air Force. She faithfully followed her husband for 23 years
during his Air Force career. Delores was devoted to her family and stayed at
home to raise her children.
Delores then returned to the work force and worked as a clerk for the
Department of Defense for two years. She finished her career as a loan
technician working for Farmer's Home Administration in Meridian, Idaho, for
18 years. Her death ends a 49-year marriage.
Delores loved her children and thoroughly enjoyed her grandchildren. She was
also very close with her siblings. She enjoyed reading, bowling and
traveling throughout the country with her husband in their RV.
Delores was preceded in death by her parents, Alvin and Jennie (Albers)
Thiemann.
She is survived by her husband, Floyd DeLawyer; her sons, Alan (Sharon)
DeLawyer, Mark (Jeanne) DeLawyer, David (Sandra Sandford) DeLawyer, and
Bruce (Ronda) DeLawyer; her daughter, Nancy (Bill) Williams; her brothers,
Donald (Judy) Thiemann, Robert (LaVema) Thiemann; her sister Eva Hanson
(friend Merle Fiedler). She is also survived by her 10 grandchildren; and
one great-granddaughter.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Diabetes Research Wellness
Foundation, 1206 Potomac St., Washington, DC 20007.
Graveside service will be held 11 a.m. on Saturday at Dry Creek Cemetery,
9600 Hill Road, Boise, Idaho.
The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Cloverdale
Funeral Home, 1200 N. Cloverdale Road, Boise [Idaho]. Cloverdale Funeral
