Richard Dale Ulrich

1962 - 1983

Richard Dale Ulrich was born Nov. 27, 1962 at Britt, IA. He was the son of Larry W. and Shirlene (Busick) Ulrich.

He attended schooled in Klemme, graduating with the Class of 1981. While in school he was very active in sports, lettering in football, basketball, golf and baseball. At a high school golfer, Richard was frequently a medalist.

Rich earned two college scholarships, one for golf and one for art. He attended Buna Vista College (now University) in Storm Lake, Iowa. He majored in art and was on the varsity golf team as a freshman and sophomore.

In April 1983, while at college, Ulrich became ill with a viral infection and flu. He developed complications and was hospitalized in Storm Lake, and then in Sioux City, where he died on April 12, 1983. He was 20 years old.

At the time of his death he was living in White Hall at Buena Vista. His dormitory floor was renamed in his honor and his picture was displayed there.

He was buried at Ell Township Cemetery. Survivors include his parents, brother Wendell and sisters Lynetta, Dawn and Denise; grandparents Richard and Pauline Ulrich and many other relatives and friends.
