In 1978, they moved from Windom to the Manly Retirement Apartments, and later purchased a condo in Mason City. From 1972 until 1996, they wintered in Mesa, Arizona.

Bill enjoyed his family and friends, playing golf and in his most recent years, his Sunday trip to Birdsall's and his special young friends, Jake and Alicia, who visited him monthly during the last two school years.

He was a member the Trinity Lutheran Church in Mason City.
