John Weiland
1892 - 1918
Palo, Iowa, Aug. 27. - John Weiland was born
at Belmond, Iowa, July 20, 1892. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. George Weiland.
Mr. Weiland was graduated from high school at Klemme, Iowa. Going from there to
Chicago where he finished at the Plumbing Coyne National Trade school. After
which he was married to Miss Betty Carleton, Aug. 4, 1916, coming to Palo three
years ago, and taking the position as manager of the Palo Live Stock and Lumber
company, which place he filled well and was held in high esteem by all who knew
him.
He was taken sick two weeks before his death with hemorrhage of the stomach and
passed away on Sunday evening, August 18 at the age of 26 years. The funeral was
held from the M. E. church on Tuesday afternoon, August 20. The Rev. R. Thompson
officiated, and also being in charge of the Masonic lodge of which he was a
member. Miss Anita Yates sang "I Know He Knows" and Fred Kahler sang "Saved by
Grace."
Surviving are his wife and one year old daughter, parents, one sister. The
floral offerings were many and beautiful. He was taken to Klemme, Iowa for
interment.
