Joseph C. West, 87, Humboldt, died Monday, Feb. 3, 1997, at Humboldt. No funeral services are being planned.

Survivors include his wife, Mary; one son, Peter J. West; three daughters, Rosemary Townsend, Julie Ann West and Rebecca Whitver; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Joseph C. West was born Aug. 18, 1909, in Stanhope. He graduated from Klemme High School in 1929 and attended Iowa State University. In 1938 he married Mary Rose Schultz at Emmetsburg. He was chosen as a charter officer for the Iowa State Highway Patrol in 1936.

During World War II, he served as a Lt. Colonel, Corps of Engineers, U. S. Army Reserves. He spent many years in the insurance and real estate industry.

He was a member of the Scottish Rite and Yourk Masonic Lodge. Memorials may be left to the Humboldt County Hospice.
