John "Jack" Douglas Baker, 75, Spencer, died Thursday, May 30, 2002, at
the McKennan Hospital, Sioux Falls, S.D.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 3, at the First
Congregational Church, Spencer, with Rev. Thomas Van Tassell and Rev.
Martha Rogers officiating. The Warner Funeral Home of Spencer is in charge
of the arrangements.
John "Jack" Douglas Baker, the son of Glenn Curtis and Huda Sophia
(Nelson) Baker, was born May 5, 1927 in Belmond. His childhood years were
spent in Belmond, where he received his education, graduating from Belmond
High School.
Following his schooling, he entered the military and served with the U.S.
Navy during WWII as a ship's clerk from 1944 until his honorable discharge
in 1946. After his military duty, he went to Iowa State and later
graduated with a degree in veterinary medicine.
He worked in Klemme, Ames, Kansas City, Mo,. and Denver, Colo., before
moving to Spencer in 1984. He worked as a veterinarian at DVM Supply until
his retirement after 49 years.
Mr. Baker married Jacqueline Davis on June 6, 1987, in Spencer.
He was a member of the First Congregational Church in Spencer. He was also
active in the Spencer community as a member of the Kiwanis, American
Legion, V.F.W., Masonic Lodge, American Veterinarian [unreadable], Medical
Association, Lion's Club and Toastmasters and also taught Sunday school.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, one sister, two brothers
and and an infant brother.
Mr. Baker is survived by his wife of Spencer; one one son, Barry Baker of
Carson City, Nev.; two daughters: Janice (Baker) Nellis and her husband,
John, of Kansas City, Kan.; Jill Ebel and her husband, Roy, of Rockwall,
Tx.; two stepsons: Cole Lineweaver and his wife, Julie, of Arnolds Park;
Eric Lineweaver and his wife, Tammy, of Milford; one brother, Glen "Bus"
Baker, and his wife, Dorothy, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; one sister, Jean
Greenwood of Belmond; eight grandchildren and other relatives and friends.
Memorials are designated to the First Congregational Church, Spencer, and
Cardiac Rehab of the Spencer Hospital, Spencer.
