Services for Viola May Blau, 71, Klemme, who died Thursday, June 18, 1998, at the Muse-Norris Hospice inpatient Unit in Mason City, were held Saturday, June 20, 10 a.m., at the Tenold Funeral Chapel in Belmond with Rev. Jerry Robertson officiating.

Music was provided by Madelyn Priebe, organist, and Lance Arnold, vocalist.

Honorary casket bearers were Gary Blank and Eldon Hagen.

Active bearers were Mark Ludwig, Brian Waddingham, Jamie Waddingham, Josh Blau, Chris Blau, Jeff VanBlaricom and Robbie Blau.

Burial was at the Ell Township Cemetery, Klemme.

Viola May Blau, the daughter of David and Carrie (Reemtsma) Schwichtenberg, was born July 24, 1922, in rural Klemme. She attended Klemme and Garner schools.

June 26, 1941, she married Arnold Blau. They resided in Klemme where Viola was a cook for the Klemme School for 13 years. She loved cooking and gardening and enjoyed giving fresh vegetables and baked goods to her children. She was described as a true storybook grandma. She was a true caregiver, a best friend, as well as a special mother.

She is survived by her daughters; Nancy Waddingham and her husband, Lyle of Klemme; Sharon Ludwig and her husband, Ted of Mesa, AZ; and Peggy VanBlaricom and her husband, Glenn of Berthoud, CO; a son, Arnold John (A.J.) Blau of Mason City; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brothers; John Schwichtenberg of Clear Lake, and Jesse Schwichtenberg of Kanawha; a sister, Jean Gruis of Hampton; a special sister-in-law, Ann Armstrong of Ames.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband on June 18, 1998.
