Bonstead, Gary O.

Gary O. Bonstead, 76, of Wausau, died Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at Hospice House, Wausau.

Gary was born July 5, 1937 in Palo County, Iowa to the late Gerald and Inez (Paulsen) Bonstead. He married Joan Charlotte Foster on August 24, 1957 at Estherville Lutheran Church.

Gary graduated from Buena Vista College with a B.S. degree and went on to become a teacher in the public school system, teaching junior high. Gary was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Webster City, IA for 20 years as well as the N.E.A of Isea, IA, the Immanuel Men's Group and the Stewardship Committee. He enjoyed sports, wood working, model trains and music.

Gary is survived by his wife, Joan, Wausau; daughters, Tracy (Stuart) Brown, Wausau, and Melissa (Troy) Bonstead-Bruns, Eau Claire; 5 grandchildren, Aaron, Ashley and Anna Brown and Tyler and Sophia Bruns; 1 great grandchild, Aiden Feldman; Brothers Paul (Laj) Bonstead, St Louis, MO and Steven (Cathleen) Bonstead, Sioux City, IA and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Ronald Bonstead; two sisters, Ione Slingerland, and Shirley Nelson.

Memorial services will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 630 Adams St, Wausau, WI. Rev. Sean Motley will officiate. Visitation will be from 11:30 am until the time of services at the church. Brainard Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.
