- Services held for Glen Bridges, 59
Funeral services were held Saturday, September 6, at 2 p.m. from the
United Methodist church for Glen Bridges, 59, who died unexpectedly at the
Hancock County Memorial Hospital on Wednesday. He had been a patient there
for a short time.
Words of comfort were given by the Rev. George Brighton. Organist was Mrs.
Robert Schulz; comfort in music was offered by Mrs. Roy Arnold and Mrs.
Wayne Whitney singing "How Great Thou Art" and "Beyond the Sunset."
The pallbearers were; Roger Ridder, Dennis Ridder, Robert Beier, Gordon
Beier, Stanley Bridges, and Jerry Stokesbary, nephews of the deceased. Mr.
Bridges was laid to rest in the Klemme Cemetery at Klemme with the
Johnston Funeral Home in charge of services.
Glen (Sport) Bridges, son of Herman and Elizabeth Fanslow Bridges, was
born near Dows in Wright County, on June 17, 1910. At the age of two
years, he came to the Klemme community with his parents and lived on a
farm northwest of Klemme in Liberty Township.
As a youth he attended the rural schools near his home. On April 12, 1935,
he was united in marriage with Valeria Koerner, at Estherville, Iowa, by
the Rev. Fred Ortmeyer. Mr. and Mrs. Bridges continued to make Klemme
their home since then.
For some years, Mr. Bridges had been employed with the Klemme Hardware and
recently had been in business for himself as a repair and serviceman.
He had been a member of the Klemme Voluntary Fire Department and had also
served on the local school board.
Glen passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, Sept. 3 at the Hancock County
Memorial Hospital in Britt at the age of 59 years.
He is survived by his wife, Valeria and seven children: Sharon, Mrs.
Richard Gardner, of Clarion; Berleen, Mrs. Paul Olson, of Williams; Gaylon
Bridges of Annapolis, Maryland; Collyn Bridges in college at Mankato,
Minn.; Vicki, Mrs. Ed Whitman, of Ankeny; Royce Bridges, United States
Navy; and Nyla Bridges, a sophomore in the Klemme school. Also surviving
are two sisters and two brothers: Gladys, Mrs. Walter Drake, of Waukeegan,
Ill.; Irene, Mrs. Troy Davis of DeRidder, Louisiana; Orville Bridges of
Klemme; and Cecil Bridges of Thornton; as well as nine grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Faye and Maude.
