- Dr. Carl Crawford, 68
Warner Robins, GA - Dr. Carl Crawford, 68, of Warner Robins, GA, formerly
of Gilman and Melbourne died Saturday, July 12. Services were held at
Central Baptist Church. Burial was in Parkway Memorial Gardens. Heritage
Memorial Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He was born Oct. 26, 1928 in Grinnell to William and Eva Crawford. He
graduated from Gilman in 1946, then received his bachelor's degree from
the University of New Mexico.
He taught science and history at Bridgewater and Klemme, IA. He moved to
Macon, GA, in 1957 to be a representative of Geigy Pharmaceutical.
He married Joe Ann Simmons on November 22, 1959. He received his medical
doctorate from the Medical College of Georgia in 1965. He was in private
practice in Americus and Warner Robins until he was board certified in
family practice and served as staff physician for Hallmark Nursing Home
from 1968-1988.
He was a retired Lieutenant Colonel with the Air Force Reserves and served
as staff physician at the Robins Air Force Base Dispensary from 1988-1989.
He was a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, American
Medical Association, Georgia Academy of Family Physicians, Warner Robins
Rotary Club, Warner Robins Genealogy Society, served as president of
Peachbelt Medical Society, the Ocmulgee chapter of the sons of the
American Revolution, was past chairman of the Salvation Army Advisory
Board and on the board of directors for the Houston County unit of the
American Cancer Society. He was a lifetime member of the Air Force
Association, a member of the All Saints Episcopal Church where he served
as a Vestry member.
Survivors include his wife, Joe Ann of Warner Robins; a daughter, Connie
Custer of Warner Robins; two brothers, Donald Crawford of Manton, CA; and
John Crawford of Rhodes; a sister, Joan Svendsen of Beaman; and three
grandchildren.
