- Stephen Day Is Dead
Was For Many Years Prominent Citizen of Klemme. Died in Oregon
Word has reached this territory of the death of Stephen B. Day, formerly a
resident of the vicinity of Klemme, and one of the early settlers of this
section of Hancock county. Several years ago, Mr. Day, his wife and family
moved west - somewhere in Oregon, we believe.
Perhaps two years ago, Mrs. Day passed on. This sorrow appeared to effect
Mr. Day deeply. As we get the report, he got all his earthly
affairs in shape, converting all his property into cash and disposing of
his money by will, and one morning about a month or six weeks ago his
lifeless body was found lying across the grave of his dead wife.
A great many of our people will remember S. B. Day. He was a
whole-hearted, genial man and news of his death will be sorrowful tidings
to many of our people.

- Ends Life's Cares At Grave Of Wife
Stephen B. Day of Northwood Closes Affairs and Marches To Cemetery With
Rifle
Stephen B. Day sold his farm at Northwood Monday, wrote a note to his
daughters bidding good-bye, and marched at night with his rifle to the
grave of his wife at the Lynden cemetery. His body was found there Tuesday
morning.
Leonard Lowery, who purchased the farm, found the note early Tuesday
morning, with its message saying that Day would be found at his wife's
grave. Frank Cruikshank and R. B. LeCocq, who were notified, discovered
the body there.
Mrs. Day passed away last July and up to last week, Mrs. Mary McNally, an
adopted daughter had lived at the Northwood farm. Mr. and Mrs. McNally
moved a few days ago to Kendall.
Mr. Day was seventy years old. He had lived in the Northwood district for
the past thirteen years, where he had gained a wide circle of
friends. He is survived by two daughters, Venia Day of Bellingham, and
Mrs. McNally.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday morning at Knapp's Parlors. The
Rev. E. O. Grimes conducted the services.
