Olga C. Duran, age 90, of Faribault, MN, passed away peacefully on Friday,
March 1, 2019 at The Emeralds at Faribault Care Center
surrounded by family and friends.
Olga was born April 30, 1928 in Havana, Cuba. Olga and her family exiled
to Miami, Florida in 1961, then later settled in Clear Lake, Iowa and Des
Moines, which became home to her for many years. She spent her final years
in Faribault, living with her daughter and son-in-law and then St Lucas
Care Center with the loving and supportive care of all the wonderful
staff.
She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and sewing for friends and family.
Mostly she loved being surrounded by friends and family for Cuban dinners,
telling stories of her life in Cuba and experiences as a Cuban Refugee
coming to America. Olga went on to further her education and received a
Masters Degree in Education from St. Mary’s University in Winona,
Minnesota. She taught Art and Spanish for many years.
Olga is survived by her daughter, Olga Knapp of Bloomington, MN and her
son, Ed (Julie) Duran of Cedar Rapids, IA; her brother, Eddie Caamano of
Miami; her grandchildren, Ana (Tom) Bartl of Minneapolis, Andrew Knapp of
Colorado, Michael (Anna) Knapp of Minneapolis, Amanda (Andrew) Ott of
Cedar Falls, Iowa, and Katie Duran of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; her great
grandchildren, Dominic, Madison, Jameson, Timothy Elliott, Jackson and
Harrison; her loving nieces and nephew, Alicia, Sylvia, Tina, Mercedes,
and Luis.
Olga was preceded in death by her husband, Jaime Duran; son, Jim Duran;
son-in-law, Tim Knapp; and sisters, Alicia Bosch and Sylvia
Caamano.
At Olga’s request no service or visitation will be held. She will be
buried in Clear Lake, Iowa where a family memorial will be held later this
spring.
