Obituary of A. D. Gimer Former Klemme Resident

Following is an obituary of A. D. Gimer of Renwick who died on October 1st at the Belmond Community Hospital. The obituary was taken from the Renwick Times.

Arthur Dewitt Gimer, son of William and Emma Gimer, was born at Hubbard, Iowa, on January 14, 1881. He passed away on October 1, 1956, at the Belmond Community Hospital of a coronary thrombosis at the age of 75 years and eight months. His wife preceded him in death on November 3, 1955.

On Christmas day, 1902, he was married to Emaline Fouts. Mr. and Mrs. Gimer moved to Cleves, Iowa, where they operated the Cleves Creamery for several years. They then moved to Abbott, Iowa, where Mr. Gimer operated a store and was post master for three years. Then they returned to Cleves, and in 1913 moved to Klemme, Iowa where Mr. Gimer was manager of a new creamery. Having spent more than 18 years in Klemme, Mr. and Mrs. Gimer came to Renwick in 1932 to open the Renwick Community Creamery. This business has expanded through the years.

Mr. and Mrs. Gimer united with the Evangelical Church in Abbott, then later with the Methodist Church in Klemme and Renwick. Mr. Gimer has been active in the church many years as a member of the official board and regular in attendance at church services.

Mr. Gimer is survived by his five children, Bernice (Mrs. Geo, Bell), Harl, Thomas, Thelma (Mrs. Stanley McCurry), all of Renwick, and Blanche (Mrs. Frank Gibbs) of Honolulu, Hawaii, and also 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren all who will cherish his memory.

His mother passed away in 1931 and father in 1933. Also an infant sister in 1883, His brothers and sisters now surviving are Cora of Ackey, Lewis of Eldon, Ida of Riceville, Howard of Hampton, and Ray of Wellsburg.

His first interest was his work and the welfare of his family. Having most of his family near him was a great joy to him. The grandchildren and great-grandchildren made life most interesting. He will be missed by his family and many friends.
