- Karen Marie Hanson
Karen Marie Hanson was born in Binford, North Dakota, to Jule and Hank
Hellekson on February 16, 1937.
In 1958, Karen received her bachelor’s, with a major in mathematics and a
minor in Spanish at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. That
same year, she married Gerald “Bill” Hanson and began teaching. In 1971,
she received her master’s degree in mathematics at San Jose
State.
In addition to teaching, Karen spent 16 years as a scientific programmer
at Lockheed.
She volunteered with Camp Fire Girls, Bobby Sox Softball, Sunday school
and women’s activities at Bethel Lutheran Church. She was also an avid
bowler.
Karen’s faith sustained her in life and through the loss of the loved ones
that preceded her, including her sister, Joann (Hellekson)
Grosskettler; her son, Eric Thor Hanson; and her son-in-law, Manuel
Castro.
Her life is celebrated by her loving family: husband, Gerald “Bill”
Hanson; daughters, Corrine Devine and Barbara Hanson Castro; her
daughter-in-law, Beth Elness-Hanson; granddaughters, Erin Devine (David
Harbage), Megan Devine, Regina Castro, and Anya Hanson; as well as a
myriad of extended family members and cherished friends.
A celebration of Karen’s Life will be held at Bethel Lutheran Church,
10181 Finch Ave, Cupertino, CA 95014 on Saturday August 20, 2022 at 1 pm.
