Delores was born on September 8, 1945, in Mason City, Iowa, the daughter
of Lloyd C. and Alma Jennie (Nelson) Jaspersen. She was raised in the
Sheffield area and graduated from Sheffield-Chapin High School in 1963.
She continued her education at Wartburg College, earning her Bachelor of
Science degree in 1966. Later in life, she followed her heart back to
school, receiving her Occupational Therapy certification from the College
of St. Catherine in December of 1995.
On August 24, 1967, Delores was united in marriage to Richard Mindrup in
Sheffield, Iowa. Though their marriage later ended, they were blessed with
two children, Laura and Steven, whom Delores loved dearly and remained
deeply devoted to throughout her life.
Delores had a true servant’s heart and dedicated much of her professional
life to caring for others. She began her career teaching elementary school
in several communities before pursuing occupational therapy. She worked at
Mercy Medical Center, Wright Medical Center and later Iowa Specialty
Hospital, caring for others for over 30 years before her retirement. Her
work was more than a profession; it was a calling. She found great purpose
in helping others regain strength, independence, and confidence.
Her faith was an important part of her life. She was a longtime member of
Zion Lutheran Church in Clear Lake. In 2023, Delores moved to Mesa,
Arizona, where she joined Victory Lutheran Church. There she became active
in Bible study groups and choir and regularly volunteered her time with
local charities. A lifelong learner, she also enjoyed attending classes at
Mesa Community College.
Family meant everything to Delores. She kept close track of aunts, uncles,
cousins, and their growing families and was a familiar and cherished
presence at Jaspersen family reunions. She treasured photographs, keeping
albums filled with memories from years past and present gatherings alike.
Delores also had a love for travel and adventure. She visited 37 states
and 20 countries, enjoying cruises and trips that introduced her to new
places and new friends. She had a gift for striking up conversations and
made friends wherever she went. She lovingly scrapbooked her adventures,
filling pages with photographs and thoughtful notes that captured the joy
of each journey.
Delores is survived by her daughter, Laura (Chris) West of Mesa, Arizona
and their children, Tyler (Danielle) Weaver and Quincy (Destiny) Weaver;
her son, Steven (Joy) Mindrup of Marion, Iowa and their children Alexa,
Fletcher and Ian Mindrup; great-grandchildren, Hayden and Asher Weaver;
brother, Kenneth (Irene) Jaspersen of Omaha, Nebraska. She is also
lovingly remembered by extended family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Alma Jaspersen.
Delores will be remembered for her dedication to her family, her steady
work ethic, and her compassionate care for others throughout her life.
