Raphael Clark Neary, 68

Raphael Clark Neary, 68, a resident of 609 East 21st Street in Atlantic, died Monday, April 12, 1999, at the Cass Memorial Hospital in Atlantic. The son of Raphael Michael and Louise Emily Johnson Neary. Raphael Clark Neary was born April 25, 1930, in Treynor where he grew up and graduated from high school. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Master of Science degree from the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls. He served in the Army during the Korean War. Clark was united in marriage to Sondra Rae Bridges on Aug. 24, 1957, in Klemme. He was a teacher in the Atlantic Community Schools for 37 years, retiring in 1993. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Atlantic; the American Legion Post #725 in Treynor; ISEA; NEA; and several honorary social studies fraternities.

Surviving are his wife, Sondra Neary of Atlantic; his daughter, Colleen Neary of Omaha, Neb.; a sister, Kathryn Moss and her husband, Jim, of Council Bluffs; a brother, Bernard Neary and his wife, Mary, of Audubon; a sister-in-law, Carol Terhufen and her husband, Roger of Bettendorf; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Raphael M. and Louise E. Neary.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 15, at 10:30 a.m. at the Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic, with the Rev. Charles J. Downing of the First United Methodist Church in Atlantic officiating. Interment will be in the Atlantic Cemetery. There will be a visitation Wednesday, April 14, from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Roland Funeral Home.
