Funeral Services For Mrs. Jennie Nelson Were Held In Klemme, Iowa

Funeral services for Jennie Nelson, 68, of Klemme who died at Valley View Village Retirement Home in Des Moines on Sunday evening on June 10, 1973, were held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 13 1973 in the United Methodist Church, Klemme, Iowa.

Rev. Donald Campbell officiated the services. The organist was Mrs. Robert Schulz. She accompanied Bill Renner singing, "My God and I" and "I Know Whom I Have Believed."

Casket bearers were Harry Lauen, Marvin Lauen, Lloyd Jasperson, Elmer Larson, Jerry Suntken, and Gordon Sawtelle.

Burial was at the Klemme Cemetery. Willim-Andrew Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Nelson was born July 5, 1904 near Meservey, Iowa. She was the daughter of Henry and Jennie (Roll) Meinderts. She was raised and educated in the Meservey area schools. After finishing her education Mrs. Nelson operated the local telephone office in Meservey until her marriage.

On February 25, 1925 Mrs. Nelson was united in marriage to Verner Nelson in her parents home and after their marriage, they farmed in the Klemme Community until Mr. Nelson's death in 1961. She then moved into her home in Klemme and worked in the hot lunch program of the Klemme Public Schools from 1961-1963. In 1972 she moved to Valley View Village to be near her daughter and had been in failing health for the past 2 years.

Mrs. Nelson was confirmed in the Reformed Church in Meservey on May 14, 1922. She later became a member of the United Methodist Church in Klemme, where she was active in the Church Women's Society, Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She had been active in the Women's Home Extension Service and was a member of the Klemme Grandmother's Club.

Survivors include 2 daughters: Mrs. Robert (Erdene) Halferty, Des Moines, and Ardella Nelson, Madison, Wisconsin; 2 grandchildren; and 3 sisters: Mrs. Bert (Anne) Lauen and Mrs. Henrietta Wilkins, both of Belmond, and Mrs. Martha Bachman of Ventura.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, 1 brother and 1 sister.
