Old Resident Here For Many Years
Old Resident And Business Man Of Klemme Passed Away Monday
N. L. Palmer, long time resident of Klemme and business manager of The
Northern Lumber Co. here, passed away Sunday following an attack of heart
trouble.
The community was shocked and saddened when his death was announced Sunday
evening.
Mr. Palmer has been closely associated in the upbuilding of this community
and has always taken an active part in boosting the town and community. He
was at one time the mayor of our city and for a number of years held the
office of town clerk which position he held until the time of his death.
He was a good booster for the town and community.
Following is the obituary as read by Rev. A. H. Meyer at the funeral
services held yesterday afternoon at the house.
Nelson L. Palmer was born at Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, March the 22nd 1868
and died at his home in Klemme, Iowa on Sunday evening, June the 5th 1921,
at the age of 53 years, 2 months and 15 days. The cause of his death was
heart failure.
Mr. Palmer lost both of his parents in his early boyhood days and was
compelled in early life to look out and shift for himself. He often
remarked that he had run up against the rough edges of the world in early
life. Mr. Palmer was a good hearted man, kind and considerate to everyone
he chanced to meet. A good citizen, a fine business man, a loving husband,
a man that loved his home and those that lived there.
He was united in marriage to Miss Emma Kimball at Algona, Iowa, on
September 21, 1897 and located at Klemme, Iowa, where they lived and
obtained the respect of every one. Mr. Palmer took an active part in the
welfare and business development of this town. For a number of years he
was a member of the school board and he served as town mayor and also town
clerk. He was one of the oldest business men of Klemme being manager of
the Northern Lumber Co. and connected with this firm for a number of
years. He was esteemed by his business associates as indicated by the
beautiful floral offering and their presence here today.
Mr. Palmer had been failing in health for quite a number of years, and at
times he suffered quite severely but always rallied again. So when he was
again afflicted on Thursday evening last no one thought that he would pass
away so soon.
He leaves to mourn his death, his dear wife, one brother, one sister, two
aunts, two uncles, besides many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted on the home lawn on Wednesday afternoon
and interment was made in the Algona Cemetery.
Out of town relatives who attended the funeral services were: Mr. Charles
Kimball, a brother of Mrs. Palmer from Delavan, Wisconsin, Mrs. McElroy
and Mrs. Noah of Topeka, Kansas, Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Marlow, and four sons
and daughter-in-law of Burt, Iowa. Mr. Matt Palmer, brother of Mr. N. L.
Palmer of Louistown, Montana, did not arrive in time for the services but
came later. Besides the above there were many friends from out of town.
