Christine Geneva Rue

1886 - 1973

 

Rites held for Mrs. A. C. S. Rue

Final rites were conducted from First Lutheran Church here Friday, for Mrs. A. C. S. (Geneva) Rue, 87, who died Wednesday, April 11, at Mercy Hospital, Mason City.

The Rev. H. A. Wilke officiated and interment was in Sunset Rest Cemetery. Pallbearers included Clarence Breen, James Medlang, Steven Rue, Harry M. Thompto, Richard Rue and Cornell Knutson.

A native of Northwood, Mrs. Rue was born April 6, 1886 to the late T. C. and Caroline Rone. She was a granddaughter of the first settlers in Worth County (Mr. and Mrs. Gulbrand Mellem). She attended the St. Ansgar Seminary and Iowa State Teachers College, Cedar Falls and taught rural schools in Worth County 20 years. She had also taught in Klemme and Marathon. Later in life she worked as a practical nurse. She was an active member of the New Century Club and in church activities. She married A.C.S. Rue in Northwood, June 11, 1924. She and her husband owned and operated the Rue Heating and Plumbing in Northwood.

Following their retirement, they lived in Des Moines and returned to Northwood. She had been a resident of Good Shepherd Home in Mason City since 1966.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brother, Carl and sister, Mrs. Katherine Wamstad.

Survivors include a son, Truman, Des Moines; two sisters, Mrs. Oliver (Hilda) Knutson, Northwood and Mrs. Eleanor Racker, New Orleans, La.; three grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
