Thomas Roths, jr. of Garner died Thursday, Sept. 7, 2000 at the Muse
Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City. He was 74.
Memorial services for Mr. Roths were held Monday, Sept. 11 at the Cataldo
Funeral Home, Garner, with the Rev. Roger Kallem of the United
Presbyterian Church officiating.
Inurnment was in Concord Township Cemetery. Garner. Graveside military
rites were conducted by the Garner Veterans Ceremonial Unit. The Cataldo
Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Thomas Francis Roths, Jr., the son of Thomas Francis Roths, Sr. and Leoda
Elizabeth (Smith) Roths was born July 17, 1926 on a farm near Klemme. He
attended school at Klemme and then worked in a shipyard in Vancouver,
Wash. He served his country in the U.S. Army in Europe during WW II.
After discharge, Mr. Roths worked at several jobs until he took over the
management of the Roth's Cafe in Klemme. He also worked for E. G. Greiman
Construction, LaHarve Construction in Forest City and Yohn Ready Mix in
Garner. He served as a volunteer fireman in Klemme for many years.
Mr. Roths enjoyed traveling, driving his truck and visiting with people.
He was a lifetime member of the Garner V.F.W.
Survivors include his wife, Marjorie, of Garner; six children, Elizabeth
I. Roths, Karen M. Schoenwetter and her husband, Scott; Thomas J. Roths
and his wife, Kandy; Sara A. Roths, and Michelle K. Thorson and her
husband Don; four step-children, Rodney T. Spieker and his wife, Cheryl;
Jaclyn A. Liska and her husband, Jim; David Spieker and his wife, Michelle
and Scott Spieker and his wife, Lisa; six grandchildren; eight
step-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild; and a brother Robert L.
Roths and his wife, Helen, of Garner.
Mr. Roths was preceded in death by his parents and a step-daughter,
Vanessa Spieker.
