- Services held for Mrs. Roy Schaefer
Funeral services were held for Mrs. Roy (Cora) Schaefer, 70, on Tuesday,
April 28, at 2 p.m. from the United Methodist church, Klemme, with the
Rev. George Brighton, Minister, officiating.
Mrs. Schaefer died on Sunday, April 26, at the Hancock County Memorial
hospital, in Britt.
The vocalist were Mrs. Roy Arnold and Mrs. Russell Thorson, with the
organist, Mrs. Robert Schulz. The hymns were, "How Great Thou Art," and,
"The Old Rugged Cross." The pallbearers were: Bob Cavitt, Dale Brede, Roy
Arnold, Maurice Trumbell, John Schwichtenberg, and Russell Thorson. Burial
was made in the Klemme cemetery, Klemme. The Johnston Funeral Home was in
charge of arrangements.
Born at Garner May 25, 1899, the oldest of the family of Fred and Cecelia
Nesbit Gates. She was graduated from Klemme high school and was married
June 6, 1917 to Roy Schaefer. They farmed west of Klemme some 25 years,
and have lived in Klemme since 1941.
Surviving are her husband; four sons, Merle, Los Angeles; Eugene, Milford;
Calvin, Garner; Donald, Palmdale, Calif.; four daughters, Mrs. Emory
(Violet) Weaver, Garner; Mrs. Dennis (Rose) Trca, Britt; Mrs. Junior
(Iris) Rayhons, Mrs. Ed (Daisy) Barz, Kanawha; four sisters, Mrs. Ben
Riemer, Garner; Mrs. Ben Ridder, Klemme; Mrs. Robert Martinson,
Bloomington, Minn.; Mrs. Kenneth Garver, Waterloo; a brother, Lawrence
Gates, Van Nuys, Calif. Also surviving are 25 grandchildren and two
great-grandchildren. One aunt survives, Mrs. Nora Latham of Prairie View
Apartments.
She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant brother and one
grandchild.
