Joan C. Utt, 91, beloved mother and grandmother passed away in
Bakersfield, CA on June 1st, 2022.
She was born in Nora Springs, Iowa to Neil and Marie Dobson and spent her
youth enjoying the farm life. She met Ross J. Utt in high school and they
married in 1951. Joan earned her teaching credential and taught
pre-kindergarten for most of her working career. Ross was a career Air
Force man and he and Joan traveled the world. They had four children. When
they were stationed in Colorado Springs, they decided to make it their
home and lived there for 40 years. Joan and Ross were quite the team. They
enjoyed extensive travel, spent time in the great outdoors, restored
antique wagons and were active volunteers in the El Paso County fair. Joan
was also active in the Assistance League. They moved to Bakersfield in
2007. Joan loved animals and children. She treasured her time as a docent
at the California Living Museum, handling the ambassador animals and
sharing them with the guests - especially the children. Joan also enjoyed
working out in her yard tending her flowers and yard art and pulling every
pesky weed.
Joan's husband Ross, daughters Diane Heidelbach and Jerri Jo Utt and her
sister Wanda preceded her in death. She leaves to cherish her memory her
daughters Terri Hayes and Dr. Kristy Utt, son-in law Bob Heidelbach,
granddaughters Celeste and Celena, 5 great-grandchildren and a host of
relatives and friends in her long and happy life.
A celebration of live is planned for 1 PM, June 25th, 2022 at the home of
her daughters.
